Homemade Peanut Butter! Just peanuts, a bit of honey, a food processor, and five minutes. So creamy and delicious!

You guys. I DID THIS. I made my own peanut butter. At home. On my own, with, like, real peanuts.

And in five minutes and I’m NOT EVEN JOKING.

This is The Peanut Butter of peanut butters. It’s peanut butter like you’ve never seen before. Or have you? If you’ve made your own peanut butter, you’re already five hundred light years ahead of me in coolness. But if you haven’t made homemade peanut butter yet, we need to talk.

Ingredients For This Recipe

Peanuts

I prefer to use dry-roasted peanuts for this recipe. They’re simple but deliciously roasty for that intense peanut flavor! I haven’t tried this with other nuts before (like cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, etc.) but would love to hear if you try another one.

Sweetener

You can use a liquid sweetener like honey or agave, or just regular sugar.

Salt

This one is totally up to you! If you like a saltier peanut butter (me), add some extra salt to the mix.

How To Make Homemade Peanut Butter

In this little jar of liquid gold, we have peanut butter with the most perfectly melty, creamy texture, and with a barely sweet, peanutty-intense flavor. Add a little honey, add a little sea salt, or more or less or nothing at all. It doesn’t even matter. Something magical happens when you whip all those peanuts around in the food processor for a few minutes, and that something is creamy, drippy peanut butter that is the definition of perfect simplicity.

Now if you’ll excuse me while I go back for my 800th spoon-dip this morning.

This homemade peanut butter thing is massively better than anything I could have expected. I’ve heard of it for years and always thought it was secretly hard or something. And/or I’m just lazy.

But oh my gosh, IT’S SO EASY, you guys. It’s probably the easiest, fastest thing you could ever make. One ingredient, one machine, five minutes.

My peanut butter didn’t turn out creamy like the pictures. What did I do wrong?

Each food processor’s strength is just a little bit different and it sounds like it just needs a few extra minutes in the food processor. It’ll get there!

How should I store my homemade peanut butter?

Fridge or at room temp works here! It’s best in the fridge though if it’s going to be several weeks before you get through it.

Do I have to add the honey?

The honey helps balance out the saltiness of the peanuts, but if you want to keep things sugar-free, just keep the honey out.

Can I use this same method for other nuts for nut butter? (Almond butter, cashew butter, etc.)

We haven’t tried, but would say yes. It’s possible you would need to add oil depending on the nut. We’d recommend looking up specific recipes for your preferred nut to be sure!

How To Use Homemade Peanut Butter

You mean, if not by the spoonful? Okay, okay, okay.

There are lots of options right here on Pinch of Yum, but let’s get back to basics. Shall we?

  • Spread it on toast for breakfast or a snack.
  • Drizzle it on your favorite fruit (like bananas).
  • Stir it into your morning oatmeal for a protein boost.
  • Add a dollop to your smoothies.

I love love love the texture because it can be thick (just pop that bad boy in the fridge for a while) or it can be drizzle-able and soft and runny, which is how I like it.

There is just nothing better than a melty spoonful of peanut butter to bring in the morning // to satisfy my pre-lunch hungers // to treat myself to before bed. Soooo maybe it’s habit forming? I mean, like, hard to say.

5 Minute Homemade Peanut Butter

Description

Homemade Peanut Butter! Just peanuts, a bit of honey, a food processor, and five minutes. So creamy and delicious! 


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups dry roasted peanuts
  • 12 tablespoons honey or sugar
  • additional salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Place peanuts in a food processor. Turn the food processor on and let it run for 4-5 minutes. During this time, you’ll see the peanuts go in stages from crumbs to a dry ball to a smooth and creamy “liquid” peanut butter. Stir in the honey and any additional salt, if you want.
  2. Store in the fridge or at room temperature if you think you’ll go through it fast enough.

    Nooo, don’t add sugar/honey! The great thing about homemade nut butter is that it doesn’t have sugar (or oils, etc.) added to it.

      Plain peanut butter is good, but for not every batch. Raw honey and cinnamon are great add-ins for a change.

      I did sugar free for about 2 months in 2019 and i lost around 8kg. I also felt and looked younger and healthier and my husband did too. Going at it again now and we just had 1kg of raw nuts delivered. Cannot wait to make this. Have you ever heard of jaggery? Would you advise using it as a honey replacement? It’s what we eat in our home made corn and wheat porridge and it works fine.

      I ❤️ recipes like this! And, having had extensive dental work done recently, I’m unable to eat nuts in their natural form. I’m wondering if you could use cashews instead of peanuts? Has anyone tried this?

    I love making nut butters! But surprisingly, I haven’t made peanut butter yet. I need to get on it! I’ve made a coconut walnut butter that was good, but it had coconut oil in it so it would get hard in the fridge. I suppose you could leave it out, but the directions said not to. I also have made a gingerbread pecan butter numerous times because it is so amazing. I can’t take credit for either, but they are both yummy!

            Need oil in this recipe. At least 2 Tbls of any neutral oil. We used Sunflower oil and a pro Ninja.

        Gingerbread Pecan Butter sounds simple enough to design. Pecans likely have a similar enough oil content to be processed in the same fashion. After that a small amount of ginger, nutmeg, and clove plus molasses as a sweetener instead of honey.

    Great post. I have not purchased peanut butter for several years. I was one of the unlucky people to get food poisoning from Trader Joe’s peanut butter. Now I make my own with a trip through the oven for more flavor and no bacteria. Why was I not doing this sooner?

    I always make my nut butters at home and I’m so surprised that everyone isn’t doing it! It’s literally the easiest thing ever. The almond butter takes the most time, but still it’s only like 30 min to the most amazing thing ever.     So glad to see you are giving up the refined foods. I have to say it will bring me here more often. I love the PB–but I would add the honey on the sandwich or whatever. No need to sweeten it before time.

    And, to Marzia–no need to be SUGAR FREE. JUST REFINED SUGAR FREE. Honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar–all are awesome and do not make you feel sugar deprived AT ALL!

    Decades ago, there was a Mr. Peanut grinder that was made for this purpose. Kids loved to make their own peanut butter with the thing. Nothing like homemade PB!
