This is my go to recipe for fruit pizza. The cookie base is a really good recipe and everyone loves it when I make it.
Fruit pizza. Hello, hi, I love you.
This fruit pizza starts with a slightly doughy jumbo sugar cookie, which already seems like it can’t get any better, but buckle up. It’s about to get WAY wild in here.

The Prettiest Fruit Pizza Ever!
The jumbo sugar cookie is intentionally underbaked so it stays nice and soft and doughy (SAY NO MORE I am here for this). It’s topped with a cream cheese frosting – repeat: cream cheese frosting – and then it’s decorated with juicy, colorful fruit in a meticulous rainbow pattern.
You guys know I give zero anythings about fancy-looking food. I am an anti-food-decorator. Just put it all in a bowl and give me a fork. That is my motto.

Ingredients You’ll Need For The Best Fruit Pizza Recipe
- Baking essentials (like flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and a couple extras) to make the sugar cookie dough crust.
- Cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar for the frosting
- Fruit! Our favorites include strawberries, grapes, mangos, blueberries, and kiwi. Your fruit choices are flexible here though – other great options could include bananas, raspberries, blackberries, mandarin oranges, or maybe even peaches.
Effortless, Easy, and Beautiful
But this might be my one exception. It’s not actually hard at all – you just layer the fruit slices in a pretty pattern, and I swear, people will think you are straight-up Martha Stewart. Including yourself.
And somehow that soft-baked sugar cookie + cream cheese frosting combo does, in fact, taste better when the sliced fruit on top is just a little prettier.
You better be grammin this moment.
This fruit pizza is strangely popular with the guys in my family – like, all of them are obsessed? – and I don’t know if that has to do with the underbaked sugar cookie crust, or the cream cheese frosting layer, or the fact that it has just the right amount of Midwestern retro to it?
Guy/girl, Midwestern, retro or not, doesn’t even matter.
This fruit pizza is just straight guuuud.
Fruit Pizza: Frequently Asked Questions
We LOVED that the dough was slightly underbaked, but if that’s not your thing, bake the dough for an additional 3-5 minutes. You can also use a tube of store-bought sugar cookie dough.
You can make the dough gluten-free by using gluten-free flour. A 1:1 sub with Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Flour worked great for me.
Use the top halves of the grapes so they are round and smooth!

Ingredients
Sugar Cookie Crust (although store bought sugar cookie dough also works great):
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 12 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Fruit Toppings:
- 7–10 strawberries, sliced
- 5–6 kiwis, sliced
- 1 mango, sliced
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1 small bunch of grapes, halved
Instructions
- Make the Crust: Mix the butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla until well combined. (You can use an electric mixer or just mix with a spoon if your butter is melted.) Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until combined. Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Bake the Crust: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking stone with parchment. Roll the chilled dough out onto it into a 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick layer, leaving some space around the edge. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Allow it to cool.
- Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: Using an electric mixer, combine the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy. Spread over the cooled cookie crust and chill again to firm up the frosting.

Healthy Fruit Pizza
This is a variation on fruit pizza that is made with a raw crust (dates / nuts) and a creamy coconut milk and honey filling. It’s also no-bake fruit pizza which is great in the summer.

Family loved it,,nice summer dessert,,pretty too!
Glad you all enjoyed this, Jeanne!
So, I have made and cooked both of the cookie crusts. I have also made all of the cream cheese frosting and fruit I’d ready to go. However it is 2:00 am and I really need to go to bed. Will this be ruined if I put the cookie crusts in the refrigerator along side the crust topping and ensemble them all tomorrow? Please give me your thoughts! Thanks !.
That should work just fine!
My daughter has this every year now for her birthday cake.
I made it for a work party, and was told in the future,
I have one job only.
Bring a Fruit Pizza to every event.
Little sisters are the best. Packing is the worst.
Oh – and fruit pizza is ALSO the best!
Am I able to bake the crust earlier in the day? Before fronting and serving? I’m thinking a few hours up to the night before?
Yes, you can for sure do that!
I was craving a fruit pizza earlier this week..trying to find the perfect recipe to make. This one looks like a winner.
So pretty! Your family is so ridiculously talented.
My mom makes this! Although she uses pre-made sugar cookie dough…because she’s not much of a baker, lol. Good luck with packing!
The pizza looks great. Your sis is talented. I can relate to your packing quandary. My hub and I are getting ready for a yard sale and we keep taking things out to the garage to “sell” but then I find them mysteriously back in the house the next day! Quite a mystery how that happens!
Bahaha – it’s a disease!
I’m pretty sure that is the most gorgeous fruit pizza I’ve ever seen…
oh my goodness. this is gorgeous. fruit pizza is one of my favorite things. i am gonna have to try this for sure!
The fruit pizza is quite literally, a work of art. My new mission in life is to make something half as beautiful.
Your sister is extremely talented. I have to just mix all the fruit and up and dump it on when I make fruit pizza because my patience is seriously lacking. This is so vibrant and beautiful!
I’m going to make this this weekend and I was wondering if I should use salted butter or unsalted?
Thanks for this amazing recipe!
Either should work just fine here. 🙂
I love this idea a d am planning on using it for a tea this spring. How far ahead can I make it, or will it get soggy? We will have a presentation before we eat and trying to get sandwiches and the pizza is my concern.
You should be able to make this the night before and be just fine!
I need to make fruit pizza happen soon. This is stunning! And I hear you on the packing…you can do it!!
I now love you AND your sister!
this is drop dead gorgeous
I agree. 🙂
This is absolutely GORGEOUS! Have a safe move and I hope you guys get to use your iPhones out there.
Thanks Chung-Ah! Do you have any experience using iPhones abroad?
Pretty pizza! I have a fruit pizza recipe I love but I’m willing to try this. 🙂 And I was kind of confused when you said that your nurse sister was a former beanie baby collector. I thought… she must be my age or a little younger. People my age are nurses? What? Oh wait. I’m old.
Great recipe! I will definitely try it out soon. Quick question-can I use whipped frosting instead of cream cheese?
I think you can basically do whatever you like with this one. 🙂 The only issue with the creamy layer is that you want it to be firm enough to hold up your fruit, but I would imagine you can figure out a way to make it work!
Oooooh this looks dangerous! And I mean that in a good way. Good luck with the iPhones. I would be lost without mine. Is there a reason you can’t use them there? My husband took his overseas with him to Qatar. It’s insanely expensive but to us it’s worth it.
Well, I think that in order to have a Filipino number/service (which we need), you have to get it unlocked… and we can’t seem to be able to do that. But I really don’t know what I’d do without it – and I’ve only had mine for 6 months!
Ah I see. The locals over there hooked my hubby up. It’s amazing what they’ll do for you to get your money, lol! Good luck! And P.S. I tried this pizza (minus strawberries because I’m allergic) and it was great! My kids devoured it and are already begging for another one. Thank you!
Maybe we can get some special customer service once we get there. You gave me hope, anyways. 🙂
It’s too pretty to eat! Ok almost too pretty. I used to collect beanie babies too. Except you couldn’t get them in Australia so when we’d go to America my sister and I would save up so we could buy up big.
YUM! I love me some fruit pizza!!
That pizza is amazingly beautiful. I so want to try making it, WITH the doughy cookie base. Yummm. By the way, your sis gets credit for the pretty pizza but you get credit for presenting it so well in the photos:)
I love fruit pizza! Are there any adjustments your recommend for making individual cookies instead of 1 large one?
It dewfinitely looks yummy, congrtas to the baker and the whole team behind it!
It definitely looks yummy, congrtas to the baker and the whole team behind it!
WOW! That pizza is just absolutely, stunningly gorgeous, Lindsay! I might have to “steal” the idea and give it a bit of a healthifying treatment. 😉
I make this pizza using Pillsbury sugar cookie roll. Also I put a glaze on mine. Your recipe says glaze, but I could not find it in the recipe. Absolutely beautiful.
I do a similar fruit pizza starting out to make it look nice but get tried before it is complete and just start putting the fruit on so I can eat it!
Beautiful! I love fruit pizzas!
Good luck with the packing! 🙂
Made this today – the dough was very sticky. Let sit in the fridge for 30 mins as the recipe calls for and tried to roll out on a floured surface. Would not stop sticking to everything!
I ended up adding about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup more flour just to get a dough that would roll out.
Are the proportions in the recipe correct? And if so – does it need to be chilled for MUCH longer than 30 minutes?
Just wanted to let ask as I had a time getting the dough to come together.
Thanks!
