Let me just roll this out: Italian Chicken Sausages, plus onions and peppers, all grilled and juicy and tucked into a toasted (but still fluffy) brioche bun swizzled with a punchy little aioli to tie it all up.

Is it summer? I think it is almost summer.

I’m sending my greetings from the land where the sun now shines and grilling for dinner has once again become an option! I hope this is true for most if not all of us?! Because nothing makes quarantine life a little more exciting than taking the kitchen operations OUTSIDE. Trees. Birds. Concrete.

I don’t know what’s outside for you but whatever it is, it is OUTSIDE. And outside is not inside. And this is progress.

Grilled sausage and peppers with aioli on a sheet pan.

Progress that tastes like every good, juicy, zippy, grilled and roasty thing.

My friend Angela – remember Ang’s tortellini soup? – was texting with me about ALDI (yes, really) and she told me she had made their chicken sausages with sautéed peppers and onions on the grill and that it was simple and amazing. Related: if you don’t already have a friend with whom you text a detailed report of almost every meal, please consider.

So I decided to try it out. Here are my (mostly organic, always affordable) ALDI faves for this recipe:

  • Simply Nature Organic Stir In Pastes for the aioli (basil and garlic)
  • Peppers and onions
  • Lemons
  • Simply Nature Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Never Any! Italian Style Chicken Sausages with no antibiotics or hormones
  • Stonemill Roasted Garlic & Herb Grill Seasoning
  • Specially Selected Brioche Hot Dog Buns – cannot say enough good things, we love these burger and hot dog buns
ALDI ingredients for grilled sausage and peppers.

Okay, these look more intense than they are. Are you ready?

Grill peppers and onions. (With some olive oil and garlic herb seasoning.)

Grilled peppers in a bowl.

Grill Italian chicken sausages.

Grilled sausages on a plate.

Assemble in buns, with aioli, and squeezes of more lemon.

YOU DID IT!

This is a happy, delicious, messy-in-a-good-way summer night waiting to happen.

Grilled Sausage and Peppers with Garlic Aioli

Description

Grilled Sausages, plus onions and peppers, all grilled and juicy and tucked into a toasted (but still fluffy) brioche bun swizzled with a punchy little aioli to tie it all up. SO GOOD.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage and Peppers

  • 1 package Never Any! Mild Italian Style Chicken Sausages (4 individual sausages)
  • 2 bell peppers, cut into slices
  • half of an onion, cut into slices
  • 1/2 tablespoon Stonemill Roasted Garlic Herb Grill Seasoning
  • olive oil, lemon juice, and salt
  • 4 Specially Selected Brioche Hot Dog Buns

Garlic Aioli

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon Simply Nature Organic Garlic Stir in Paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Simply Nature Organic Basil Stir in Paste (optional, or sub fresh herbs)
  • salt and lemon juice to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk aioli in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Toss peppers and onions with the garlic herb seasoning (or whatever other spices you want). Drizzle with enough oil so they won’t stick on the grill.
  3. Place sausages directly on the grill. Place peppers and onion slices in a grill basket or a cast iron pan on the grill. Grill both until you get nice grill marks and the veggies are soft. At the end of grilling time, add the brioche buns, cut side down, to get them toasty.
  4. Transfer peppers to a bowl and toss with lemon juice, more olive oil as needed, and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve each grilled chicken sausage on a toasted bun with a scoop of grilled peppers and a swizzle of your aioli. YUM. At our house, extra aioli was requested for certain grown-ups for “dipping,” so just be prepared for that.

I just have to say that I made that soup a day or two after you posted the recipe and it was beyond amazing. That is what I wrote next to it in my list of keeper recipes. This looks great also and I will making it shortly on the grill but I have always wanted to say thank you for that soup. It just made me all kinds of happy to serve my family something so delicious!

I had sausage on a bun last night, it’s so yummy. But from afar i totally thought those buns in your picture were sweet potatoes at first and I was like wow … that is a super weird combo! Buns make much more sense … Lol. I unfortunately dislike the taste of cooked peppers – but I really wish I liked them!! They’re in so many good things.

Omg this is so perfect! I have the Never Any tomato basil chicken sausage in my fridge and was thinking of making something similar to this since it’s grilling weather here. I didn’t buy these brioche buns at Aldi but have a comparable brand in my freezer. Think I solved the “what’s for dinner” problem! I want to try a different chicken sausage on Aldi’s pretzel’s sticks (the german brand from the frozen section).

These look amazing, I can’t wait to try them. I will be subbing out for plant based Italian sausage since I don’t eat meat.

  5. Pinch of Yum Logo

Just made these and SOOOO GOOD everyone just go make these! I didn’t have the garlic and basil paste just threw some garlic powder into the aioli and it all still tasted delicious!

  6. Pinch of Yum Logo

This was delicious! I made it for lunch today and my husband told me he could eat this every day. It will probably become one of my go-to recipes this summer. Thanks!

Love this combination of the savory sausage, sweet veggies and creamy punchy aioli! We don’t have a grill, but I used a cast iron skillet to first sear the sausages and then cook the peppers and onions. Also added some chives from our garden to the aioli. Thanks for a super easy and tasty recipe!

This is the second time my husband and I have made this in as many weeks! We love it! Our local store doesn’t have those sausages but we get ones we like and it works perfectly.

High time I left a review, since I’ve only made this, oh, six or so times this summer! Simply a wonderful combination of flavors! Don’t miss the garlic aioli! (And tonight I made pretzel hoagie buns!)

I was in desperate need for a quick dinner the other night and lucky me, I had everything on this list except for buns and a grill! So I tossed everything on a sheet pan and baked it, then served it family-style in the pan on the table and drizzled the aioli everywhere and it was a mega hit!
