Sage in February – 2018

Woman with dog on leash in the snow.

Believe it or not, February has been a pretty low-key month for Sage.

I mean, as you might remember from every picture taken of her ever, low-key is kind of her approach to life.

A brown dog relaxes on a couch.

Snuggly? Gentle? Nap Champion? Check yes, yes, and yes.

Also – Awkward? Nervous? Never quite comfortable with the camera? Yeah, all of that, too.

As much as Sage loves the occasional sprint through the dog park, she really shines in an indoor environment packed with couches, blankets, and treats.

She has always been a back sleeper – like, the kind of back sleeper where her legs stick straight out in every direction – and as Bjork and I did some research, we were not surprised to read that “when a dog is doing the Crazy Legs, they are letting their family know that they feel 100% comfortable and safe in their environment.”

Yeah, that sounds about right, Sageroontoons.

Sage’s big win this month has been playing fetch. She has always been afraid of a) balls, and b) the heating vents in our house, which makes fetch difficult as the balls often roll over the vents and immediately the game is done. But my mom got her a tiny squeaky stuffed animal that is supposedly infused with lavender, “promoting relaxation with each squeak” – lol – and now she wants to play fetch.

Okay, WANTS to play is a stretch. It took some work aka treats to get her to figure out what she was exactly supposed to do, but now I can toss her little stuffie across the room and she knows that she’s supposed to go over and pick it up.

This is her I-don’t-know-why-you-think-this-is-fun-but-I’ll-do-it-for-a-treat face:

Sage’s one big challenge this month has been – and will continue to be – dropping a few of those sweater-bod pounds that she’s accumulated over the last few months. I am not gonna lie – her second, third, and fourth chin rolls are getting pretty extreme. The vet tells us that the rolls are less of a concern, but the overall extra weight (in her case, a solid 3-5 lbs.) should probably be addressed. So Sage’s fitness future is looking like a combination of a little less food and a few more walks around the ‘hood.

Mostly, Sage is a queen and we love her.

Here’s a peek at her February highlights.

I think Sage has the exact same personality of my dog Red! He is the biggest snooze and cuddle monster ever and afraid of so many things! He does love fetch though but only for about ten throws then I think he wonders why he’s retrieving it if we always just throw it again.

Sage is such a cutie! I have a cat that always sleeps on her back with her legs up too! I´m assuming that she is 100% comfortable with her enviroment too! great post and I wish sage good luck on losing those extra-pounds 🙂

Sage is a total sweetheart! You’re so lucky that you found each other. Now I’m pestering my husband with these gorgeous photos of Sage in hopes he’ll agree to adopt one of her distant relatives

Love the photos of Sage – keep them coming! Do you happen to know what breed/breeds Sage is? Our dog Clifford looks a lot like her, but we aren’t sure what he is. Our vet isn’t even sure, other than brown dog 🙂

Reminds me of the good days back in Brooklyn when I used to own a German Shepard and a beagle. Loved them so much. 🙂

My vet told me the same about my black Lab dog, I tried giving less food but he followed me around wanting food all the time. I switched his food to good, organic human grade food without all the carbs (read the ingredients list on his food and it was mainly carbs) and he lost the extra weight and was no longer hungry all the time. Try Primal brand Frozen or Honest Kitchen dehydrated brand foods, he liked both. They come in different flavors and are healthy foods. I make dog food for the next day every night, hydrate in containers & refrigerate or put the frozen in baggies in fridge to defrost. Bonus if you use the Honest Kitchen Fish recipe Zeal – they get great fish oil so do not need joint supplements as they age!
Sage is adorable btw! Cute photos!

Awwww, Sage is awesome just the way she is! I had an extra high energy Rottweiler named Molly. Her high energy made her a great running partner, but a terrible in the house kind of pet. She literally ran everywhere she went, would lose control and smash into things. Sage looks like a cuddly old soul that I just want to lay on the couch with.
