How am I going to stop eating this?! I think it’s the extra touch of salt that makes it so irrisistible. I’m sure I’ll be making this again!
I know this is about coconut oil granola, but first, let’s address what we’re all thinking: does this not kind of look like Honey Bunches of Oats?! I didn’t mean for that to happen, but then I looked up at the picture, and wow! There it is! My own personal homemade new and improved version of the cereal that fueled me through early high school.
But no. It’s not Honey Bunches of Oats.
It’s a golden, crispy, satisfyingly clustered granola that is speckled with almonds, coconut flakes, oats, flax, and all the other wholesome things that you want to eat but maybe haven’t found the right way yet. It’s somehow a snack and a breakfast and, magically, a dessert. And it’s naturally sweet. Only 1/4 cup of sweeteners for the whole batch.
You guys. WE CAN SUPPORT THIS. Coconut Oil Granola 2019!
This is not the first time Coconut Oil Granola has been a major force in my life. The obsession began back in January of 2015.
And then 800 years went by, and it kind of fell by the wayside, until a few weeks ago I found myself wanting to revisit that old love again. Only this time I decided to just wing it and use whatever I had on hand.
Which was:
- Almonds
- Coconut
- Flax
- Oats
- And the rest of the usual suspects, like cinnamon and honey and coconut oil.
I skipped the flour on a lazy whim, and made my other substitutions, and it turned out so good. SO good.
If you’re looking for less sugar in your life, but still like to eat warm-out-of-the-oven things that are caramelizey and golden and all-around wholesome, today is your day.
The moment is now.
This coconut oil granola remix is for Y-O-U.

I learned that coconut oil is especially good for men because it helps raise natural testosterone levels and promotes hormonal balance while supplying essential fatty acids to sustain good health. Blueberries are also good for men because they have estrogen blocking properties that help men flush out unhealthy estrogen from their bodies, and potentially play a vital role in helping men naturally raise testosterone.
I’m not a fan of eating frosted flakes cereal and would gladly eat Wheaties any day dressed in almond milk and honey. This is a good idea if you have here for a healthy bowl of cereal. 🙂
very easy to make thanks for the tips and it also looks nutritious
Granola recipe looks awesome, and I ate tons of Honey Bunches of Oats in high school too.
Not sure it was quite the right cultural moment for an R. Kelly reference, though. 🙁
I was going to say the same thing. Not really the time to be quoting R. Kelly.
You can definitely say that again, Lindsay! 🙂
Looks amazing!! Love you so very much but ouch with the R.Kelly song reference. I would suggest staying away from those 😱
Agree. The man’s being investigated (again) for raping underage girls. We gotta retire this one.
I love how this has so little added sugar! Also, I agree it does look so much like honey bunches of oats…that was my favorite cereal in college! can’t wait to make a batch of this to have on hand 🙂
This looks so delicious!

This looks good but please no R Kelly references. I love Ignition Remix too but force myself not to listen to any of his music.
I love your blog and read it religiously. I would caution you about R. Kelly references moving forward. Totally understand where you were coming from, but it may come off as insensitive to his victims and those who have been victimized by others.
Agreed. Even though I’m sure you had no ill intent, I physically cringed when I saw the R. Kelly reference.
Ditto on these comments. I LOVE this blog…but that reference was tough to get past while reading the rest of the post.
What can I substitute for coconut oil? My daughter is allergic coconut. Thank you.
I also would like a coconut oil and coconut flakes substitute please; it sounds so amazing but I can’t havw it. Thank you!
You could probably use olive oil or vegetable oil!
Do you use whole flax seeds or ground?
Whole flax seeds!
Why so much oil? Coconut Oil Granola Remix. Can we put less coconut oil?
You can definitely give it a try with less, but it might end up a little dry!
I make a granola very similar to this and only use 1/4-1/3 cup coconut oil and it turns out great. I do use a little more (2T) maple syrup.
Hi! Your coconut oil recipe for granola looks great, but I’m new to all this and have a question: What can I use instead of the shredded coconut – my daughter doesn’t like it & I’d like to substitute something else that would preserve the texture of the granola. I’m diabetic & she’s overweight, so I love all your recipes, hoping to benefit both of us. Thanks so much…valerie
Hi Valerie! No worries – you can just sub in some additional nuts or oats to replace it.
May I ask if you used raw or roasted/salted pistachios in this recipe? It looks delicious, btw. Thank you!
I believe they are roasted/salted!
I’ve been using the same granola recipe for about 5 years. Today I decided to try yours and it’s delicious! Thanks for sharing.
Today is actually going to be a pinchofyum day. I also made your miracle no knead bread, which is family favorite, and tonight I plan on making your no boil baked penne with meatballs.
Awesome, Diana! Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent flavor! I followed the recipe and it does end up being a bit oily. Do you measure the coconut oil before or after you melt it? I did 3/4 cup melted coconut oil. Thx for all of your delicious recipes!
We typically measure after it’s melted!
this is great! I added some a little dried quinoa too for extra crunch. how would you store this? in the fridge?
I’ve been looking for this kind of recipe for ages – simple, crunchy and healthy!

Thanks for including nutrition facts, but could you also include the fiber info. Diabetics are interested in the fiber, as it can be subtracted from the carb grams if over 5 gr.
How am I going to stop eating this?! I think it’s the extra touch of salt that makes it so irrisistible. I’m sure I’ll be making this again!
I am a picking granola eater. I like my granola healthy and hearty. I love this recipe! I love everything about it. The ingredients are great. Since I’m from Michigan I added dried blueberries and dried cherries in place of the raisins. Delish! Thank you.
BEST. GRANOLA. EVER!!!
This is amazing. Everyone loves it. I have made it twice already. Thank you
I am such a doofus. Must have been distracted or confused with another recipe, because I read the temperature wrong and burnt my granola. I had set it at 375. I was able to save most of it, and what wasn’t burnt was super delicious. I will be making this again at the right temperature soon.
Oh no! What a bummer. Hope you enjoy it!
Hi i wanted to ask for how Long you can store this granola until it goes Bad 🙂
Thank you
Loved this! Skipped the flax seeds because we didn’t have them, other than that kept everything the same. Super tasty and loved that it wasn’t overly sweet (and that’s coming from someone who loves sweet things!). Will probably omit the raisins next time just because I don’t love dried fruit in granola, but overall, really delicious!
