ALERT ALERT ALERT! Only a small amount of time and a few ingredients stand between you and a skillet full of creamy, garlicky, flavorful, romantic, and dangerously good pasta. Tender sun-dried tomatoes, maybe some spinach, creamy sauce, bouncy noodles, and a heavy dusting of Parmesan. This is an urgent matter. I think you understand.
A few important things for your review before you take a swim in this creamy, luscious pan of pasta:
First of all, can you ever go wrong with garlic, white wine, and cream in a sauce? Hint: no. It’s just a cheat code for greatness. It makes short ingredient lists everywhere very, very happy.
Secondly, spirali is the most fun pasta shape of all time and I won’t debate with you about this. It’s a skinny little tube, like bucatini, but it’s wound into a tight spiral, so you get a spiraly shape that is very subtly voluminous and airy at the same time. Spring gift to yourself: an order of specialty pasta to make your weeknight cooking into a fun adventure. File under things you say after age 30.
Bringing You a Very Simple Ingredient List
Okay, your star players in this recipe are:
- pasta (spirali, spirali, spirali! it’s too much fun)
- garlic
- white wine
- cream
- sun-dried tomatoes
- Parmesan
And… the rest is kind of up to you. You can throw in a handful of spinach and some sliced chicken sausage if you want. Make it a one-pot meal. If you want some actual chicken in the mix, this recipe has you covered.
Or you can just dive in headfirst.
You’ll Need Delicious, Quality Pasta Here
Truthfully, one of my favorite SOS hacks is keeping versatile, good-quality foods on hand at all times.
DeLallo is the source of many of my favorite items in this category.
Their website is FULL and I mean really FULL of fun made-in-Italy products that can ship right to your door, and we have a large selection of all of these things at our office kitchen since we’ve been working with DeLallo for like, 8 years? Longest standing brand partner on POY because we love them and so do you. ♡
In my home kitchen, however, space is tight, so I have to reduce my stash to just a few of our most beloved favorites:
- rigatoni
- whole wheat orzo
- gnocchi
- tomato sauce
- sun-dried tomatoes
- and now, spirali
Whatever kind of noodle you use, it’s just a fact: pasta in a creamy white wine garlic sauce, speckled with tender bites of sun dried tomatoes and a handful of fresh herbs makes any SOS weeknight just a little less SOS-y and a lot more wonderful.

Creamy Garlic Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta: FAQs
Good news is this recipe is super customizable! Go ahead and add anything else you want in there – sliced chicken sausages, spinach leaves, peas, etc!
That should work – you’ll just need to add a bit more olive oil to the pan and the dish to bring all the flavors together well.
One of our team members, Jasmine, knows the ins and outs of wine pairings. She recommends a white wine from Italy, like a Pinot Grigio, Soave, Gavi, or Verdicchio here. 🤓
Source notes: The idea for this recipe came from my friend Angela! She texted me about it one night after she made it, with a photo, and it was my lunch the very next day because, like I said at the beginning, this is an urgent matter.

Description
You are thisclose to enjoying Creamy Garlic Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta! Garlicky spirali noodles and tender sun-dried tomatoes in a creamy, luscious sauce with a heavy dusting of Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces DeLallo spirali pasta (okay, you don’t have to use spirali, but it is SO FUN)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup DeLallo sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil, sliced or chopped
- about 1/3 cup dry white wine
- 2/3 – 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup spinach, chopped
- up to 1/2 cup reserved pasta water
- salt and pepper to taste
- a big bunch of chopped chives or parsley
- parmesan for serving
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: Cook the pasta according to package directions.
- Sauté the good stuff: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Use a little bit of the oil from the sun-dried tomatoes to sauté the garlic and sun-dried tomatoes until soft and fragrant, 2-3 minutes.
- Make the sauce: Add the wine; let it sizzle out and reduce so the flavor gets real good. Add the cream and spinach; bring to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper.
- Finish: Stir in the cooked pasta, adding the reserved pasta water as needed to help coat the noodles in the sauce. Finish with chives and Parmesan and a top-up on your glass of wine. SO GOOD.

Well, YUM! And I think you need to add campanelle pasta to your list – it is my fave for holding sauce, and it is super pretty too! Yay pasta!
For sure, Kate! We love campanelle!
This looks delicious! What would you say would be the best substitute for the white wine in this recipe? I need the meal to be alcohol free.
We’d recommend vegetable broth!
This looks amazing! I love Delallo and and buy their whole wheat pasta in bulk. Please pass along to your contact there that whole wheat spirali would be a welcome addition to their product line!!
Great suggestion!
Looks yummy, could I use coconut milk instead of the cream?
We haven’t tested with coconut milk, but it should work just fine!
I was thinking of trying this with whole fat oat milk … maybe another option.
Great idea!
Do you deliver?? 🤤
I feel like the calorie calculation is off here. 2/3 cup of cream is 500+ calories, and the pasta is 800ish, you’re already at 325/serving before adding the other ingredients.
The difference is probably only +75 calories per serving, but just making sure I’m not missing something.
So good!
Glad to hear it, Reenu!
The video adds spinach, but it is not mentioned in the ingredients ?.
I found this very bland and had to add assorted extras to give it some taste. My family was not impressed ! Next time i will add flavoured cream cheese and more herbs and spices
Sorry to hear that, Linda! We appreciate the feedback.
I was reading about that. Doesn’t call for any salt, and I don’t see anything there that could compensate for flavor…
I detract! I went ahead and tried this and it was really great. I might have added extra parm, but it was tasty.
So glad you enjoyed it, Yvette!
This is one of my top favorite recipes, I make it often for meal prep! I added mushrooms for the first time tonight (cooking them before adding the garlic and tomatoes) and it really added the perfect extra oomph. I want to emphasize the chopping the spinach part, otherwise the spinach can get a bit slimy later. And fresh grated Parmesan for serving is super crucial! All in all a delicious recipe
Hello! Just wondering if I can substitute the heavy cream with a healthier option like 2% milk?
Thank you!
We haven’t tried, but we think it’d be an okay substitute. The sauce may be a bit more liquidy!
Nice recipe I will try it.
Made this last night and it was delicious!! I also appreciate how quickly the sauce came together, and the advice to top off my glass of wine 😄. I used half and half instead of heavy cream, just because I always have that on hand (major coffee drinker here 🙋♀️). I thought it was delicious, but the sauce did “break” a teeny bit, which I suspect is due to the lower fat content. Just something to watch for if you’re not using heavy cream.
Made this last night on a whim and it was delish. Thank you for the great recipes!
This looks amazing! Can’t wait to make it for the family! Thank you for this series! It truly spoke to my soul!
Glad to hear it, Megan!
Made this tonight with some chicken sausage, we all loved it! We have 3 kids ages 5 years and under, and they all asked for seconds and thirds. Easy and quick and mom got to enjoy a quick glass of wine while cooking
BOTH of my kids liked this recipe – a MIRACLE! It is simple and flavorful… a keeper !
So glad it was a hit, Sandra!
Made this tonight. It was YUM!
Yay! So glad you enjoyed it!
I just had this last evening at home yes, the texture is strong; however, I’ll try it with less cheese next time.
Thanks for the feedback, Chris!
We have a milk allergy in our family. What would be the best substitute for the cream?
You could try coconut milk if you don’t mind the flavor!
We tried this with coconut milk and it was delicious!
I need to make this dairy free. Could I use coconut cream, coconut milk or almond milk?
You could try coconut cream or coconut milk!
This recipe caught my eye as it sounded & looked delicious. My husband & I love & eat a lot of pasta dishes… salads, etc. BUT we don’t do heavy cream. And, I know that heavy cream makes a difference in the way dishes taste. I used to eat pasta dishes with cream sauce years ago. As we’ve gotten older I tend to look at dishes that are a bit healthier for us (husband had a stroke at a young age)… things in moderation.
I thought after reading comments from a couple of people who ask about substitute of cream I would add the below link in hopes it may help others. I use the milk/cornstarch substitute… cooking only. I know it’s not the same taste as if using cream but maybe a bit healthier if one eats creamy recipes often. Hope this helps others.

Thanks so much for sharing, Tricia!
This was soooooo good! I added extra garlic and spinach. My 10 month old loved it too. Super easy to make, quick, and tasted like a much more developed sauce. Will definitely make again.
Glad it was a hit, Allison!
Delish! Made this last night and absolutely LOVED it. Very easy to make. Threw in a few handfuls of chopped spinach at the very end along with the parsley. Amazingly simple yet flavorful. Thanks for another stellar recipe!
You’re so welcome, Rachel! Thanks for the comment!
Can you tell me where in the Twin Cities you buy spirali? I’ve looked at a few stores and can’t find it.
Hi Jen! We haven’t been able to find spirali pasta in Twin Cities grocery stores, but you can order it here.
I just checked the site for spirali but don’t see it there. Know of any other places to find it?
Oh bummer! We don’t see it listed on their site either. Cavatappi noodles would be a really fun replacement! https://www.delallo.com/delallo-cavatappi-1-lb/
Made this tonight and it was SO good!! My husband agrees! Didn’t have any white wine so I used chicken stock instead and it was great! Love that it was minimal ingredients with a ton of flavor!
So glad it was a hit, Laura!
